about us

Built for restaurants that write their own schedule

ShiftNivo is scheduling for independent restaurants, bars and cafés: one location or a few, a team of fifteen or sixty, and a manager who builds next week between services. It is built to be right before it is built to be big.

Who it is for

Restaurants with hourly teams and real labor rules: overtime that starts at a different hour across a state line, teenagers who have to be done by ten on a school night, a holiday that pays time and a half. Owners and managers build the week on the web; servers, cooks and bartenders see their shifts on their phone.

The United States first, and Canada too

Most restaurants we build for are in the United States, so the product starts there: the rules of every state, DC and the federal standard. Canada is in it too, every province and territory and the Canada Labour Code: 66 jurisdictions in all. Prices are in US dollars, and a location in Canada can keep its schedule in Canadian dollars. The app speaks English and French; this site speaks Spanish as well.

What we hold to

  1. 01

Staff see only what a manager published.

A draft stays the manager's until it is published. Nobody gets a half-built week, and when it goes out, only the people whose shifts changed are told.

  2. 02

Managers get certainty, not a guess.

The cost on the board is worked out the way payroll will work it out, overtime included. A warning comes before a shift is published, not after it is worked. Where a rule is not modeled, the page says so instead of half-applying it.

  3. 03

    Pay stays protected.

Seeing wages is a permission, not a setting on a screen. A scheduler can build the whole week without seeing what anyone earns, and pay is taken out before the page reaches their browser. Staff never see it at all.

  4. 04

    Every figure carries its source.

The labor rules on this site are the data the product schedules against, each with the source it was read from and the date it took effect. If one is wrong, tell us: corrections are fixed first.

What we chose not to build

No chat: a manager's announcement is a record, and a conversation needs someone to moderate it. No ads, and no selling anyone's information. A phone number reaches colleagues only when its owner switches that on.

Talk to a person

One person reads every message: a question, a correction to a rule, or a restaurant that wants help setting up.
